Khrushchev, with rhetoric that soared not quite as high as Nkrumah’s, made the same point:

Africa is seething and bubbling like a volcano. For some six years now the Algerian people have been waging a heroic and selfless struggle for their national liberation.… No force … can halt this struggle of the peoples for their liberation.… Colonial slavery is giving place to freedom. We must have done with colonialism.… It is the UN’s duty to reaffirm faith in human rights, in the dignity and worth of the human person, in the equal rights of nations large and small.… [We must] make an end of this infamy [colonialism], this barbarism, this savagery.52
